The Flask Group looked to expand the success of Kru, a wine bar bistro, and open a bar-cafe with wine on tap up in the neighborhood of Jing’an. The team requested a space to be good for day and night service, and more importantly, embodied the casual attitude to enjoy wine at all times of the day.

The project is under construction and set to open by end of July 2022.

  • The Flask Group looked to expand upon the success of Kru, their first wine bar bistro, and open a bar-cafe with wine on tap in the neighborhood of Jing’an. The team requested a space to be good for day and night service, and more importantly, embodied the casual attitude to enjoy wine at all times of the day.

  • The design process involved a discussion on how cultural habits are formed and how a space could possibly inform or encourage people to casually drink wine.

  • To encourage the formation of cultural habits, and drinking wine casually, the team reached the consensus that the space would aid Kru’s staff in showing its guests the ease of drinking through a thoughtful layout and customized details.

  • The design proposed to create different seating zones that could address all sorts of use cases for wine drinkers, with special functions built in.

The layout placed the wine taps in the center as the main focus but split the taps into two groups to allow for the categorization of wines. To further challenge convention, the traditional bar seating was removed from one of the tap groups; in its place is a custom-built rail that encourages guests to drink and eat while standing in conversation.

Customized tables that have drawers for ice buckets and also a clamp that allows elegant storage of shisha devices were also created.
